NIGERIA PROGRAMME OFFICER

The Nigeria officer will report to the Nigeria Country Manager, with the programs and grants team.

Responsibilities 

  • Strategy development and implementation:

Under the guidance of the Nigeria Country Manager, lead the development and implementation of ACF’s Nigeria Strategy.

Identify and oversee sector-relevant research and analysis. Job

Work closely with other ACF programme staff to ensure synergies and facilitate learnings.

Work closely with the MEL Advisor to ensure effective monitoring and reporting on delivery against programmatic indicators, and to support evaluation and learning initiatives.

Manage and/or lead flagship projects or work arising from ACF grants.

  • Partnerships:

Develop and maintain strong working relationships and networks with governments (national and sub-national), finance institutions, civil society actors, think tanks and research organisations, the philanthropic community, and other key stakeholders.

  • Grant-making:

Undertake stakeholder mapping to identify needs and inform the ACF’s grantmaking strategy.

Under the guidance of the Nigeria Country Manager, build ACF’s Nigeria grant-making portfolio.

Working closely with the ACF’s grant making team, manage the Nigeria grant making portfolio, including reviewing grant requests, presenting grants to the ACF Grants Committee and Board, supporting on contracting and MEL, monitoring grantees progress, ensuring delivery against grant agreements and supporting grantees.

  • Fund-raising and reporting:

Support the Nigeria Country Manager in fundraising initiatives, including writing funding proposals and engaging donors.

  • Thought leadership:

Stay abreast of current developments to inform ACF’s Nigeria Strategy.

Contribute to the ACF’s research and content and represent ACF on public platforms.

In close collaboration with the Communications Team and under the guidance of the Programmes Team, lead and project manage ACF events (e.g. webinars, in person convenings etc.) related to implementation of ACF’s Nigeria Strategy.

Provide support to the broader ACF team, including the Senior Management Team, the Board and Council, on issues related to the Nigeria Strategy.

Qualification

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, policy, development studies or related fields.
  • At least 5 years progressive experience working on issues related to climate change in Nigeria.
  • Industry experience in energy, agriculture or infrastructure would be advantageous.
  • Philanthropic or development finance experience would also be advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving, writing and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Prioritizes work and meets deliverables.
  • Flexibility to work in Lagos and/or Abuja, Nigeria.
  • Honesty, integrity, and high levels of professionalism.
