The Nigerian Army has commenced a comprehensive inter-agency security training program in Taraba State aimed at enhancing coordinated operations against criminal elements in the region.

The exercise, which involves personnel from various security services, represents a strategic effort to improve response capabilities to the security challenges facing the North-East state.

Held at the 6 Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo, the training brings together officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The joint program focuses on intelligence sharing, tactical operations, and crisis response techniques designed to address Taraba’s unique security threats, including farmer-herder conflicts, banditry, and kidnapping.

Brigade Commander Brigadier General Frank Etim emphasised that the exercise underscores the military’s commitment to inter-service collaboration in tackling insecurity.

“This training will enhance our operational synergy and ensure we present a united front against all forms of criminality threatening peace in Taraba,” he stated during the opening ceremony.

Participants will undergo specialised drills in counter-terrorism operations, emergency response coordination, and civil-military relations. The curriculum also includes modules on human rights observance during security operations, reflecting the armed forces’ renewed emphasis on rule-of-law compliance.

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, praised the initiative as timely, noting that improved security coordination would boost economic activities and social stability across the state.

Security analysts view the exercise as a critical step in implementing the federal government’s broader strategy for addressing security challenges in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region.

The training program by the Nigerian Army is expected to run for several weeks, with participants expected to deploy their enhanced skills to various flashpoints across Taraba upon completion. Military authorities have assured residents that the exercise will not disrupt normal civilian activities in the state.
