The former Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria retired Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya has pulled out of service. This comes after President Bola Tinubu changed the command of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Recall that Tinubu authorised the nomination of new service chiefs a few days ago, signalling the retirement of the previous heads.

A traditional Nigerian military event known as the Pulling Out Parade is used to commemorate the retirement of senior officers. It consists of a march-past by soldiers as well as a review of the parade by the senior officer who is retiring.

Yahaya praised God in the highest degree for a fruitful career in the Nigerian Army, one that saw him achieve his pinnacle as the chief of army staff, in his farewell address on Saturday.

He asserted that everything must have a beginning and an end.

His career, which began on September 27, 1985, when he reported to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), ended today, he claimed.

Yahaya declared: “The Nigerian Army has indeed grown, and I want to use this opportunity to appreciate my predecessors for their dedicated service to the Army.

“It was on those efforts and platforms that I tried to build which enabled me to contribute my own quota to the upliftment of the Nigerian army,” he said.
