The Nigerian Army (NA) recently unveiled its first batch of new aircraft, the BELL UH 1-H, to improve its operational effectiveness.
The acquisition of the aircraft follows cooperation with respected players in the defence and security industries to buy necessary equipment and platforms for the army.
This is a key milestone in the Nigerian Army Aviation’s ability to offer air support to ground operations.
The two BELL UH 1-H aircraft were formally handed over to the Nigerian Army during a ceremony at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
While receiving the aircraft, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, stated that the procurement of the BELL UH 1-H is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance defence capabilities and improve the operational effectiveness of Nigeria’s armed forces.
Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja promised to modernise the NA’s aviation portfolio and personnel, as well as integrate sophisticated training and unmanned operations throughout the fleet. These platforms will be delivered today in Abuja.
The Nigerian Army is now strengthening its aviation division, with intentions to buy modernised manned helicopters for autonomous platforms from groups such as the Textron Aerosonde UAS and Ziyan UAS Blowfish, enabling pilots a larger distance from hostile threats.
