A Nigerian fashion designer has officially set a new world record by creating a garment with the longest sleeves ever documented. Samuel Chinecherem Ezeh designed and sewed a robe featuring sleeves that measure an astonishing 51.20 meters (167.97 feet) in length.
To put this achievement into perspective, the sleeves are longer than the height of the Statue of Liberty and exceed the length of an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
The 27-year-old designer, who is also a student at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, overcame significant challenges to bring his visionary project to life.
The record attempt in February 2024 was nearly derailed by technical difficulties when the needles on both his primary and backup sewing machines broke during the critical construction phase.
After moments of despair and with assistance from his supervisor, who procured new needles, Samuel persevered through the mechanical setbacks to complete the garment in under four hours.
Funding the project presented another major hurdle, as Samuel struggled to secure corporate sponsorship. He ultimately personally financed seventy percent of the production costs.
The impressive robe required 62 yards of jampard material, with 60 yards dedicated solely to the monumental sleeves. Samuel operates his clothing brand, Eco Collection World of Beauty, which he established in 2020 after learning tailoring through a secondary school apprenticeship.
Upon receiving official confirmation of his record, Samuel described feeling overwhelming joy and excitement. He now aspires to take the record-breaking robe on an international tour to display his creation around the world.
Beyond personal recognition, Samuel hopes his achievement will inspire others to pursue their ambitions with similar determination and self-belief, demonstrating that extraordinary accomplishments are possible with perseverance and creative vision.
