Nigerian filmmaker and former husband of Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle, Patrick Doyle, has ignited a firestorm of criticism with his recent Facebook post.
Doyle’s statement, in which he questioned the validity of the popular slogan “What God cannot do doesn’t exist,” drew sharp rebuke from many social media users. Despite being widely regarded as a religious maxim, Doyle labeled the slogan as “silly” and criticized those who continue to chant it despite evidence to the contrary.
The backlash was swift, with commenters expressing a range of opinions. Some defended Doyle’s right to express his views, while others derided him for his remarks, with some even referencing his personal life, including his divorce from Ireti Doyle.
This incident is not the first time a public figure has courted controversy over religious beliefs. Media personality Daddy Freeze also faced backlash recently for his comments questioning the actions of a deity he referred to as ‘god.’
Meanwhile, Patrick Doyle also weighed in on the marital drama involving Davido’s logistics manager, Isreal DMW. Doyle condemned the behaviour, describing it as indicative of a “low-life man” engaging in social media drama with a former intimate partner.
