The Federal Government has committed to reducing the skyrocketing cost of pharmaceuticals so that Nigerians can afford them.
Prof. Mojidola Adeyeye, Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), stated this on Sunday in Abuja.
According to the statement, Adeyeye made the guarantee at a webinar lecture hosted by The Cable Newspaper to commemorate its tenth anniversary under the topic “Addressing Medicine Costs.”
She stated that the country’s present high cost of medications will be a thing of the past as the Agency works with pharmaceutical businesses to reduce drug costs.
She suggested the regeneration of the indigenous pharmaceutical companies as a solution to the country’s high drug prices.
The DG stated that if the local pharmaceutical industry is revitalised, locally created medicinal items will be more accessible and inexpensive than imported pharmaceuticals.
