The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has forecasted thundery and rainy weather from Thursday to Saturday across the country.
NiMet’s weather forecast, issued on Wednesday in Abuja, predicted isolated thunderstorms in areas of Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, and Adamawa states during the morning.
Thunderstorms are likely later today in Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa states.
According to the service, moderate rains are predicted in Niger State in the morning, followed by moderate showers in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue States later in the day.
NiMet also stated that intermittent showers are likely in the afternoon and evening hours throughout Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states in the southern area.
NiMet predicted thunderstorms over sections of Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, and Kano states on Friday morning, with sporadic thunderstorms moving throughout the northern region later in the afternoon and evening.
On Friday morning, NiMet forecasted isolated rainfall over Niger, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, and Plateau States, followed by moderate rains over Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States later in the day.
The agency also predicted gloomy skies over the southern region in the morning, with occasional rainfall later in the day.
On Saturday, scattered thunderstorms are likely in sections of Sokoto, Kaduna, Bauchi, Zamfara, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi states in the morning.
Later in the afternoon and evening, extensive thunderstorms are forecast in the northern region.
Moderate rains are forecast in the North Central region, specifically in the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Benue states, throughout the morning hours.
NiMet predicts thunderstorms with moderate precipitation in most of the North Central area during the afternoon and evening.
It predicted sporadic rainfall in the southern region during the afternoon and evening hours.
NiMet warned residents of large cities to avoid flood-prone regions since heavy downpours are likely to cause urban flooding.
In thunderstorm-prone places, strong winds may precede rain.
The agency recommended the general public and aircraft operators to use NiMet’s updated weather reports and predictions to arrange their operations more effectively.
