The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has rejected calls by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cancel the recent bye-elections in Kano State’s Shanono/Bagwai and Ghari constituencies, describing the demands as unfounded.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP, maintained that the polls were peaceful, credible, and transparent, with its candidates winning decisively, as confirmed by INEC.

The party dismissed claims by APC spokesman Felix Morka alleging electoral violence, stating such assertions were “frivolous and detached from reality.” Johnson emphasised that Kano remains an NNPP stronghold, making the opposition’s defeat unsurprising.

He commended INEC officials, security agencies, and Kano voters for ensuring a smooth electoral process, contrasting it with the 2023 general elections when APC supporters allegedly attacked an NNPP secretariat in Tudun-Wada.

While recalling past violence, the NNPP noted the recent polls proceeded without incident, attributing this to improved security measures. The party urged Nigerians and the international community to disregard APC’s claims, citing endorsements of the process by INEC and police authorities in Kano.

The statement reaffirmed confidence in the results, asserting they reflect the will of Kano’s electorate. The NNPP’s stance comes amid growing political tensions in the state, with the APC yet to formally challenge the outcomes in court. Analysts suggest the dispute may test INEC’s dispute resolution mechanisms ahead of future elections.
