On Monday, Nollywood star Ekene Umenwa captivated her fans by sharing a series of photos from her maternity shoot, where she dressed as the Virgin Mary.
The actress, who recently welcomed her first child, used the occasion to reflect on her pregnancy journey and her faith, attributing her smooth experience to the mercy of the Lord and the intercession of Mother Mary.
In her heartfelt Instagram post, Ekene expressed how blessed she felt, saying,
I am truly blessed by the Lord’s mercy. My pregnancy journey was a wonderful experience, and I give praise to the Blessed Trinity and honour to our Mother Mary, who stood by me throughout.” She further explained that the inspiration for her maternity shoot came from a vision she received while praying at a grotto, leading her to honor the Virgin Mary in a humble and devoted manner.
Ekene’s post quickly garnered attention, with colleagues and fans flooding her comment section with congratulatory messages. Popular Nollywood personalities like Destiny Etiko, Mercy Johnson, and May Edochie were among those who expressed their joy and excitement for the new mother.
Destiny Etiko, visibly excited, shared her emotions in a post, stating,
Sis, when you called earlier and said I HAVE GIVEN BIRTH, I shouted because I know the journey o. And I know God almighty has been so good. Thanks to God almighty. Can’t wait to see our baby. Congratulations once again my beloved sister.”
In response, Ekene thanked Destiny for her unwavering support, highlighting the strong bond they share.
This isn’t the first time Ekene Umenwa has made headlines. Last year, during her wedding, a video of her leaving her husband to embrace and kneel before Gospel singer Moses Bliss went viral. The act sparked mixed reactions, with some criticizing her actions as inappropriate for a married woman. However, Ekene later clarified the situation, thanking her friend for arranging the meeting with Moses Bliss and describing the singer’s presence as a blessing that made her wedding day even more special.
