Nollywood Mourns as Veteran Actor and Lecturer Columbus Irosanga Passes Away

Nollywood is grieving the loss of one of its finest, Columbus Irosanga, a veteran actor celebrated for his unforgettable performances and a revered academic in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt.

The news of his passing was shared by his colleague, Hilda Dokubo, on Instagram. In a heartfelt post, she expressed her sorrow and the weight of the loss.

There can’t be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood. Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the Lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu,” she wrote.

Born and raised in Okrika, Rivers State, Columbus Irosanga was a legendary figure in Nollywood, renowned for his portrayal of chief priests in films like the 2001 blockbuster Isakaba, where he immortalized the role of “Igbudu.”

His extraordinary talent earned him multiple accolades, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and Best Actor in a Drama at the City People Entertainment Awards.

Beyond the screen, Dr. Irosanga was a dedicated senior lecturer who shaped the careers of aspiring actors at the University of Port Harcourt. His commitment to the arts and education made him a beloved figure in both the academic and entertainment circles.

He is survived by his wife and children. While the cause of his death remains undisclosed, his legacy as an actor, mentor, and community leader will continue to inspire generations.
