On Thursday, governors of six states in the north-central region held a conference on human capital development to provide lasting solutions to poverty and other socio-economic challenges affecting residents in the area.

In 2018, Nigeria’s federal government launched the Human Capital Development Programme to improve sustainable economic growth and life expectancy.

Governor Abdullahi Sule will hold a two-day conference in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa state, to tackle poverty.

Emmanuel Akabe, standing in for the Nasarawa governor, commended the Human Capital Development office’s work while reaffirming the government’s commitment to fighting poverty.

“This conference is in line with the objectives of the National Economic Council to promote investment opportunities and foster synergy as well as develop partnerships between governments and the regions being the critical actors in the socio-economic development of the country.

“I have no doubt that the conference will offer us the opportunity to know the challenges associated with human capital development and proffer workable solutions with a view to exploring business opportunities and form investment partnerships. So, I urge every one of us to take the conference very seriously for the good of our respective states and Nigeria, our country,”

Dr. Victoria Daaor, the North-Central regional consultant on Human Capital Development, has assured that the conference will be inclusive, enabling all participants to address the challenges afflicting the region’s inhabitants.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Human Capital Development, Habiba Balarabe-Suleiman, said,

“Hopefully, this regional conference will ask questions that need to be asked and provide answers that will yield results towards improving the lives of even the most vulnerable persons in the region and the country at large.”

Attendees included Deputy Governor Ahmed Mohammed of Niger State, representatives of North-Central governors, federal and state government officials, and traditional rulers.
