The Plateau State Ministry of Transportation has announced the resumption of daily train services along the Jos-Bukuru corridor, beginning Monday, July 14, 2025.
The decision follows extensive repair works and successful test runs conducted by transportation experts, confirming the route’s readiness for passenger operations.
In a statement issued by the ministry’s Information Officer on behalf of the Commissioner for Transportation, Davou Gyang, the government confirmed that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has certified both the rail tracks and the trains designated for the service. The daily operations will include four round trips between Bukuru and Jos Terminus, with scheduled stops at Old Airport and Dogon Karfe stations.
According to the ministry, the first train will depart Bukuru at 6:50 a.m., stopping briefly at Old Airport and Dogon Karfe before arriving at Jos Terminus by 7:26 a.m. Subsequent trips will follow at regular intervals throughout the day, providing commuters with a reliable and efficient transport option. The statement emphasised the importance of the rail service in easing traffic congestion and offering a safer, more affordable alternative for daily travellers.
The Plateau State government encouraged residents and visitors to take full advantage of the train services, noting that the revival of the rail line aligns with broader efforts to improve public transportation infrastructure in the state. The resumption of operations marks a significant milestone in reconnecting key commercial and residential areas, fostering economic activity and enhancing mobility for commuters.
Authorities assured the public of continued maintenance and monitoring to ensure smooth and uninterrupted services, urging passengers to adhere to safety guidelines while using the trains. The restoration of the Jos-Bukuru rail link is expected to significantly reduce travel time and contribute to the overall development of the state’s transport network.
