Rapper Odumodublvck has spoken out about the ongoing tension between artists and their record labels, challenging the prevailing notion that record labels are always to blame in such conflicts.
In an insightful conversation with Hip TV, Odumodublvck argued that many of the disputes between artists and labels are more rooted in personal differences than in inherent flaws in the music industry itself.
He pointed out that business relationships, like any other, are influenced by human traits such as ego and emotion, which can lead to misunderstandings and disagreements. The rapper emphasized that while record labels might occasionally face criticism, they should not always be painted as the antagonists in these situations.
Odumodublvck highlighted the role of success in these conflicts, suggesting that some artists may become more difficult to manage after achieving fame, making unreasonable demands of their labels. While acknowledging the challenges artists face, he urged his peers to recognize the investments and efforts that record labels contribute to their careers.
He also stressed the importance of mutual accountability, noting that the industry’s problems are not one-sided. “It’s not a record labels are bad situation… There are things artists don’t come out to say during this conflict,” he remarked.
His comments come amidst the controversy surrounding Dapper Music and its former artists, Shallipopi and Muyeeez, who accused the label of financial opacity and unfair treatment. Dapper Music has denied these claims, further fueling the ongoing debate.
