Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, vowed to deal decisively with certain monarchs in the state who are collaborating with outsiders to fraudulently steal government land for the planting of Indian hemp.
The governor, who spoke angrily, also claimed that the impacted monarchs and their associates are deforesting state forest reserves and plantations.
Abiodun stated this on Monday at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, at the Statutory Meeting of the State Council of Obas.
According to the Gov Dapo:
“Our Kabiyesis are colluding with people from outside Ogun State and give our land to them in our plantations and they are coming there, deforesting them. They are destroying the plantation. They are planting Indian hemp there. I was completely heartbroken when I heard this news and when we actually verified, it was true.”
In addition, the governor insisted that –
“As a responsible state government, we will not have any choice but to take disciplinary action against any person found culpable of such an act; any person, be it Kabiyesi or any person.”
He also informed the Obas of his administration’s plans to attract additional investors to the state, stating that a dry port at Kajola will be inked with a private investor.
