The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to order the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Chukwu stated that such a move would etch Tinubu’s name in gold and earn him lasting admiration from Ndigbo and other well-meaning Nigerians.
Chukwu made this appeal on Friday while welcoming Tinubu to the South-East ahead of his official visit to Enugu State on Saturday. He expressed optimism about the Federal Government’s gradual positive shift in attitude towards the Igbo nation under Tinubu’s leadership.
In a statement issued by Ohanaeze spokesman Alex Ogbonnia, Chukwu remarked, “It is hoped that with this visit, President Tinubu will demonstrate equity and social justice by ensuring Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release, fostering national peace and unity.”
Ohanaeze emphasized that sustainable development, patriotism, and national harmony are achievable only through fairness and justice, urging Tinubu to take bold steps to promote inclusivity and reconciliation.
According to the statement:
“In other words, there is hardly any society or group that can be complacent under severe existential threats such as orchestrated marginalization, relative deprivations, and external instigation of insecurity, conflagrations and crises.”
