Nollywood actor Olaiya Igwe has stirred fresh controversy by reaffirming his support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential candidacy, despite recent apologies to Nigerians.
In an interview with Kola Olootu, Igwe clarified that his previous apology did not signify regret for campaigning for Tinubu. He asserted that if given another opportunity, he would continue to support and campaign for Tinubu without hesitation.
Addressing criticism over his unconventional campaign methods, Igwe maintained that his decision to strip naked and campaign for Tinubu was divinely inspired. He attributed the initiative to a spiritual directive from God and emphasized his unwavering commitment to the cause.
It was God who told me to go to the beach naked to campaign for Tinubu,” Igwe stated emphatically. “Some people are saying I regret campaigning for Tinubu. I DO NOT regret campaigning for Tinubu, I will do it again if I have the opportunity.”
The actor’s controversial campaign tactic gained widespread attention last year when he shared a video of himself praying for Tinubu while naked at a riverbank. Despite facing backlash, Igwe defended his actions, citing Tinubu’s past assistance during his illness and claiming spiritual guidance as justification.
Following public outcry and scrutiny from industry peers, Igwe issued an apology on his Instagram, expressing regret for any offense caused by the video. However, his recent statements have reignited debate and skepticism among Nigerians, with many questioning his sincerity and judgment.
