Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly in discussions with the Swedish Football Association (FA) to potentially fill their vacant managerial position. The 50-year-old, who has been without a managerial role since his departure from Manchester United in November 2021, is exploring the possibility of making a comeback on the international stage.
Solskjaer, a 1999 Champions League winner, has not held a managerial position for over two years but could soon find himself back on the touchline as the head of the Swedish national team.
The talks with the Swedish FA, as reported by Fotbollskanalen, indicate that Solskjaer is being considered as a candidate to succeed Janne Andersson, who resigned after Sweden failed to qualify for Euro 2024.
Despite having no prior connections to Sweden, the Norwegian-born Solskjaer is under consideration, with the Swedish FA open to the idea of a non-Swede taking charge.
However, Solskjaer faces competition, as former Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg and Australia women’s coach Tony Gustavsson are also reportedly high on the Swedish FA’s shortlist. The outcome of these talks could mark Solskjaer’s return to football management in a new and unexpected international role.
