Los Angeles FC (LAFC) is on the brink of securing a deal with AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud, signaling a potential move for the seasoned forward to Major League Soccer (MLS) ahead of the summer transfer window.
Giroud, whose contract with Milan expires this summer, is poised to make the switch to LAFC following Euro 2024. The 37-year-old Frenchman would bolster LAFC’s attacking lineup upon the opening of the MLS summer transfer window on July 18.
Reports from The Athletic indicate that LAFC has secured Giroud’s MLS discovery rights, granting them the opportunity to finalize the deal ahead of other MLS clubs. The agreement, reportedly extending through the 2025 MLS season, is expected to be finalized post-Euro 2024.
With a prolific career spanning stints at Arsenal, Chelsea, and Milan, Giroud brings a wealth of experience and goal-scoring prowess to LAFC. As the all-time leading goal scorer for the French national team, Giroud’s presence is set to invigorate LAFC’s attacking prowess alongside talents like Cristian Olivera and Denis Bouanga.
While Giroud aims to finish the Serie A season strongly with Milan, LAFC anticipates his arrival to bolster their campaign in MLS, with hopes of climbing the league standings and making a splash in domestic competitions.
