Omowunmi, the widowed wife of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has shared her emotional journey since her husband’s passing.
In a heartfelt interview with Chude Jideonwo, she disclosed her struggles with grief, safety concerns, and family conflicts. Omowunmi revealed that she often questions God about Mohbad’s death, describing it as an injustice to her husband.
“I actually feel like God cheated my husband, like why does he have to die? We don’t feel safe. I usually get death threats in my DMs.”
Omowunmi accused her father-in-law of attempting to control her late husband’s property and making life difficult for her. She shared that while he was joyful at their wedding, he now speaks negatively about their grandson.
“My father-in-law wanted to be in control of my husband’s property. He wants to destroy my life because of it. He even went as far as saying my husband wanted to throw my baby inside the Third Mainland Bridge.”
Since Mohbad’s death, there has been public pressure to conduct a DNA test on his son, Liam, to confirm his paternity. Omowunmi initially challenged her father-in-law to secure a court order for the test but later refused to proceed, stating no one had the right to compel her.
She explained her decision, emphasizing her son’s future and the need to protect him from the trauma his father endured.
The ongoing family feud took a legal turn in April when a Chief Magistrate Court in Ikorodu ordered Omowunmi to be served notice regarding a DNA test application. Omowunmi’s legal team has since accused Mohbad’s father of avoiding the test while publicly defaming her and Liam.
They demanded an apology, asserting that the allegations portray Liam as illegitimate and have caused undue emotional harm.
