The federal government would spend more than N200 million on the distribution of supplies to farmers in the state and N200 million on the distribution of assets via the Fadama III Project, according to the state commissioner for agriculture and forestry, Olayato Aribo.
According to him; doing so was consistent with the government’s pledge to increase farmers’ production by providing them with free tools to use as part of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme.
This information was provided by Aribo at the handover of barbecue equipment to 50 unemployed residents of the state who have received barbeque-making instruction.
Aribo stated: “This year alone, Fadama III Project is going to spend more than N200 million on the distribution of inputs to farmers and N200 million on the distribution of assets and 24 rural access roads have been earmarked for rehabilitation across the state.
“This is a point of contact to many meaningful interventions the NG-CARES programme has made through the Fadama III Project in the state.”
He said that the goal of the NG-CARES plan was to reduce poverty by fostering food security.
He further stated that “the only way we can achieve this is to ensure that the poor farmers benefit from the programme and not that we the implementers should benefit personally.”
Aribo asked everyone who received the free tools to make sure they used them wisely and effectively to change their circumstances.
