Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, issued a directive on Sunday requiring all residents with impairments to register.

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Special Needs, Kamil Aransi, who announced the start of the registration, stated that the activity would run 10 days and would need no money from anyone who wished to register.

Aransi said that the “10-day registration exercise would commence on Monday, May 27, 2024 and end on Friday, June 7, 2024.”

Giving reasons for the project, Aransi stated that registration will “assist the government in knowing the precise number of people with special needs, especially in terms of wants and demands such as physical, sensory, cognitive, and intellectual impairments.”

He went on to say that the project will assist the administration in planning and providing for the state’s special needs population.

He went on to say that the major goal of the registration “is to be able to identify and provide necessary support for people with special needs and to create an inclusive society where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive.”

He stated that “the data gotten from the registration would help the state and concerned ministry develop targeted programmes and services, ensuring that individuals with special needs receive the necessary support and resources to lead fulfilling lives.”
