More than 300 ad-hoc staff members of the National Population Commission (NPC) protested in Kano on Wednesday. The protest was over the non-payment of 18 days of training allowances during the 2023 Census scheduled in February. The ad-hoc staff spokesperson in the state, Aliyu Rulwanu accused the Commission of selective payments and violating the terms of the agreement.
According to him, unpaid ad hoc His staff had written several letters reminding him that their allowances were overdue. The letters also demanded urgent payment, but the commission kept mute and lacked words of encouragement.
He said he had to protest peacefully and demand their money.
Kano State National Population Commission Public Relations Officer, Hajia Jamila Abdulkadir Sulaiman said the ad-hoc staff did not fill out the form correctly. This caused a delay in the payment of the allowance. Currently, however, the commission is in the process of rectifying the errors.
She advised all ad-hoc staff, who weren’t paid to be patient. Further stating that their allowances would be paid as soon because the commission is through with the correction.
