Patrick Doyle, a veteran media mogul and ex-husband of Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle, has raised concerns about music star Davido’s choice of outfit during his visit to the Olu of Warri’s palace.
This happened during Davido’s appearance at the Warri AGAIN event, which featured other celebrities such as Phyno, Cubana Chief Priest, and comedian AY Makun. The event, organized by Amaju Pinnick, former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, drew widespread attention.
Photos and videos of their visit to pay respects to the Olu of Warri were shared online, but Doyle took to Facebook to question the appropriateness of Davido’s attire. In a post, he shared an image of Davido with Amaju and the Olu of Warri, asking, “Is this appropriate dressing to visit the Palace of a King caliber of the Olu of Warri?”
Surprisingly, many fans and social media users quickly jumped to Davido’s defense, dismissing Patrick’s concerns as unnecessary.
Some responses include:
- Janet Obayuwana: “It is completely appropriate. He’s not naked and he stood with honor and respect. He didn’t desecrate the King of the throne by touching anything.”
- Queen Chukwu: “OBO next time tie gele and wrapper.”
- Mr Horlic: “Even Bobrisky sef go dead like woman to visit the Olu of Warri.”
Others argued that Davido’s attire reflected his status as a pop star and questioned whether there was any specific dress code required to visit a monarch. Many emphasized that since the Olu of Warri himself did not complain, there was no issue.
The visit to Warri was part of a larger event aimed at honouring the region, and Davido, as a global music icon, participated in various engagements, including this palace visit. While his outfit may have sparked some debate, the majority of fans remain supportive of his style and presence.
