Peter Okoye Responds to False Allegations Amid Ongoing Royalty Dispute with Jude Okoye

Renowned Nigerian artist Peter Okoye has fired back at claims made during a legal battle with his older brother Jude Okoye. The dispute revolves around allegations of financial misconduct concerning royalties.

The controversy began when Jude Okoye’s lawyer alleged in court that Peter’s statement to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was filled with falsehoods. Reacting to these claims on his Instagram story, Peter accused his brothers of orchestrating a smear campaign to paint him as dishonest.

“Exactly what I was talking about,” Peter wrote. “Their publicist is doing everything to make me look like a liar. I am not May D or Cynthia Morgan; I am Peter Okoye, the one and only rock/okwute of the Okoyes. The truth shall surely prevail. Una thief abi una no thief?”

Drawing parallels to recent controversies in the Nigerian music industry, Peter referenced the ongoing revelations surrounding the late singer Mohbad. He stated that the events had inspired him to abandon his previously mature approach, choosing instead to confront issues head-on.

After watching everything about Mohbad’s death and how it played out, I decided never to act as the bigger person again. Simply because trying to be the mature one is what led to this madness. Love me or hate me, I will continue speaking my truth. Family doesn’t steal from family.”

The rift between the Okoye brothers has been a recurring topic. In 2023, tensions escalated over accusations of mismanagement of joint funds, with Peter reportedly involving the EFCC. Paul Okoye recounted how he and Jude were investigated but later cleared of all allegations. However, Peter denied orchestrating the arrests, insisting that Paul sided with Jude in marginalizing him rather than working together to reclaim their dominance in the music industry.

Two months ago, Peter hinted at his struggles in a public post, urging people not to let family ties force them into silence. Reflecting on his experience, he stated,

Love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray, and family doesn’t steal from you.”

Despite the animosity, Peter remains resolute in his pursuit of justice, hinting that the full story of their November 2021 reunion will come to light in due time. “Family doesn’t steal from family. Una thief abi una no thief?” he reiterated.

As the legal proceedings unfold, fans are left hoping for a resolution that will heal the deep divide within one of Nigeria’s most celebrated musical families.
