The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has announced that its members have started loading petroleum products at the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries.
PETROAN spokesperson, Joseph Obele, made this known in a statement on Saturday, confirming that dual-purpose kerosene, automotive gas oil (diesel), and premium motor spirit (petrol) are now being lifted from the facilities.
This development follows reports of a shutdown at the Port Harcourt refinery in December 2024, a month after its rehabilitation, and a similar situation at the Warri refinery, which resumed operations on December 30, 2024.
According to Obele, the Port Harcourt refinery is now selling petrol, diesel, and kerosene, while the Warri refinery is supplying only diesel and kerosene.
The renewed operations at these state-owned refineries, alongside the privately owned Dangote Refinery, have fueled speculations of a possible reduction in fuel prices due to increased supply and competition.
“PETROAN members are now loading petroleum products, including dual-purpose kerosene, automotive gas oil, and premium motor spirits.
“The resurgence of these refineries has sparked intense competition, expected to drive down petroleum prices. As Nigerians advocate for lower PMS prices, it is clear that competition is a crucial factor in triggering price reductions.
“The refineries’ revitalisation has brought numerous benefits, including the eradication of adulterated diesel and kerosene from the market,” PETROAN spokesperson stressed.
