Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, swore in the newly elected chairmen of 15 of the state’s 17 Local Government Areas on Thursday in Jos.
Recalls that on Saturday, the State’s Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) held elections in all LGAs in the state.
Mr Planji Cishak, Chairman of PLASIEC, released the results of 15 of the 17 LGAs, stating that the other results will be announced later.
Mutfwang spoke at the occasion and welcomed the newly elected chairman, stating that they were chosen via a transparent and trustworthy process.
He praised PLASIEC for organizing a free and fair election, emphasizing that the people’s ballots counted.
Governor Mutfwang said:
”Today, I’m very proud to inaugurate these chairmen with good conscience; they are the first of chairmen coming under local government autonomy.
”I’m a strong advocate and supporter of local government autonomy, so, I’m committed to ensuring that the local government system becomes stronger and very effective.
”I welcome you on board to join me in giving the Plateau people quality leadership.”
The governor, who also vowed to help the chairmen bring excellent government to rural communities, urged them to be accountable and transparent.
