Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has been granted bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

This follows his arraignment on five-count charges, including conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause harm. The court’s decision comes after Portable turned himself in, marking a pivotal moment in his ongoing legal battle.

Portable was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command earlier this month, accused of several offenses, including conspiracy, serious assault, armed intimidation, and breach of public peace. The charges stem from a February 5, 2025, altercation where Portable allegedly led an attack on officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development during an enforcement operation at his bar in Sango Ota.

During the incident, several government officials sustained injuries, and nine of Portable’s associates were arrested, while the singer initially evaded capture.

On Wednesday, Portable surrendered at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba before being transported to the Ogun State Police headquarters. CSP Omotola Odetola, the Command’s Spokesperson, assured the public of a fair prosecution and emphasized the importance of following due process.

The charges brought against Portable include conspiracy, restriction with weapons, and assault involving cutlasses and guns. Despite the gravity of the accusations, the singer pleaded not guilty in court.

Portable’s legal counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, appealed for bail, citing the singer’s remorse and willingness to cooperate with authorities. Magistrate O L Oke granted bail set at ₦2 million with one surety of the same amount. The trial has been adjourned to March 5, 2025.

Before his surrender, Portable sought divine intervention, praying for his battles to turn into blessings. He also issued a public apology to the Ogun State government, expressing regret for his actions and attributing his initial evasion to fear.

In an emotional appeal, Portable reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene on his behalf with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun. He lamented being targeted despite being a citizen of the state, attributing the government’s anger to his political affiliations.

This is not Portable’s first encounter with controversy. Earlier in February, the government sealed his uncompleted building and hotel over alleged illegal development without approval permits, further escalating tensions. The singer, who canceled an international show to protect his family and properties, has since vowed to handle his challenges while focusing on his career and personal growth.
