President Bola Tinubu’s Chief Security Officer, Adegboyega Fasasi, and Chief Personal Security Officer, Usman Shugaba, have been accused of accepting a $1.5 million bribe to facilitate a meeting between the President and the embattled Group CEO of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari.
According to sources in Sahara Reporters, the payment was allegedly made by Abdullahi Bashir-Haske, son-in-law of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is currently detained by the EFCC over money laundering allegations.
During interrogation, Bashir-Haske reportedly disclosed that the security officers collected the sum to arrange Kyari’s meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on June 10.
The NNPC boss is under investigation for allegedly transferring millions of dollars to Bashir-Haske’s company, AA&R Investment Group. Sources claim Tinubu became suspicious after reports linked Kyari to financial dealings with Atiku’s family, potentially funding opposition activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Further revelations suggest Fasasi issued an unrestricted access tag to Bashir-Haske and promised to influence the EFCC chairman to drop the case. This is not the first time Fasasi has faced misconduct allegations—he was previously removed as CSO but reinstated.
The EFCC has reportedly briefed Tinubu and sought approval to question the implicated officers. The scandal raises serious concerns about corruption and security breaches within the presidency.
