About the Department

Administration is dedicated to excellence in operational services, with a focus on accurate and timely royalty reporting, registering songs in copyright systems and society databases, as well as cross collaboration across local and international organizations. PUBLISHING ADMINISTRATOR

The General Management Department oversees the development and implementation of the company’s business strategies, ensuring effective operations within budget. It also manages the signing of local songwriters and administers the SMP Catalogue both locally and internationally.

About the Role

The Publishing Administrator provide comprehensive support to Sony Music Publishing Nigeria, covering operational and administrative responsibilities. This role is crucial in protecting and maintaining SMP and our writer’s intellectual property and revenue flow in all aspects of deal and song administration, royalty processing and reporting. Responsibilities

  • Support the Admin & Synch Manager in copyright administration including agreements, contract summaries, song reporting and registrations, and handling copyright claims and disputes. Job
  • Assist with timely copyright registrations and maintain register of all songwriter and sub-publisher information.
  • Coordinate with Global Copyright Administration (GCA) Nashville on reporting all new deals, modifications, song and song amendments.
  • Monitor and verify data relating to local signings and ensure timely deliveries to meet distribution deadlines.
  • Handle copyright related inquires and disputes, including counterclaims, samples and unauthorised uses escalating to International team where necessary.
  • Manage Film and TV cue sheet feeds and associated tracking.
  • Liaise with local Performance Rights Societies regarding representation of the SMP catalogue.

Licensing

  • Handle all aspects of licensing administration, including song clearance, licensing contracts, negotiation of terms and fees (with guidance from MD, Admin & Sync Manager the International Team).
  • Ensure swift approval and licensing of songs in collaboration with internal colleagues and artist/writer management.

Royalties

  • Monitor timely royalty reporting from all income sources, and follow up on unresolved payments, escalating as necessary.
  • Work closely with the MD & International finance, legal and licensing teams to process, track and analyse revenue streams.
  • Report local payments and reconciling with Finance.
  • Review discrepancy reports and conduct related follow-up activities.
  • Reviewing society suspense listings.
  • Manage income tracking, audit and associated tasks.
  • Train clients on Royalty Portal and oversee all local aspects of rollout.

Stakeholder Liaison

  • Maintain liaison with local societies and represent the company in local music publisher association initiatives as assigned.
  • Act as liaison between internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Provide updates on deal recoupment status for renewals or client meetings.
  • Liaison with local signings from an admin perspective & answering any admin-related questions.

Office Management

  • Ensure efficient office operations by procuring and coordinating office equipment, services and supplies.
  • Organise and execute company events including song writing camps
  • Collaborate with various departments including Administration, A&R, Finance, Sync, as well as the
  • International Teams.
  • Prepare reports, presentation and other documents as needed

Projects & Ad Hoc tasks

  • Participate in ad hoc projects
  • Provide support to any other departments
  • Support with any other administrative tasks

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and/or professional certification
  • Evident interest in music publishing and administration
  • Knowledge of various music genres, with an understanding of music publishing and sync rights.
  • Advances proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across different regions and cultures.
  • Ability to prioritise workload efficiently and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in the music industry or other similar media industry.
  • Understanding of royalty accounting principles, contract interpretation, international copyright laws, royalty collection societies and digital distribution platforms.
