Marcus Rashford has withdrawn from the England squad to face Italy and Ukraine. The Manchester United forward was taken off seven minutes from time in Sunday’s FA Cup win at Old Trafford, with the FA confirming on Monday he will sit out the international double header after picking up a knock.
Rashford’s absence is the most serious blow given his scintillating form since the World Cup.
The 25-year-old has scored a career-high 27 goals for United this season, 19 of which have come since returning from international duty in Qatar, where he netted three times in five appearances.
Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Newcastle’s Nick Pope also pull out of the squad ; Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster replaces Pope for first call-up since March 2022.
England’s squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster, Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale
Defenders: Ben Chilwell, Eric Dier, Marc Guehi, Reece James, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker
Midfielders: Jude Bellingham, Conor Gallagher, Jordan Henderson, James Maddison, Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice
Forwards: Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney
