The 10th House of Representatives has unveiled an eight-point legislative plan designed to propel growth, prosperity, and inclusion across the country.
Julius Ihonvbere, the House Leader and Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on Legislative Agenda, unveiled the agenda on Monday in Abuja.
He listed the agenda as follows:
- Economic empowerment and diversification
- Infrastructure development
- Education
- Human capital development
- Health care for all
- Transparent governance
- Accountability
- Security and safety of persons and property
Ihonvbere noted that the agenda will be the pivot around which the 10th Assembly would operate.
He said that one of the House’s primary objectives would be to promote economic empowerment and diversification in order to overcome Nigeria’s over-reliance on oil exports.
The National Assembly, he claims, would incentivize investment in non-oil areas like as agriculture, technology, and renewable energy.
He stated that “In the agriculture sector, we will pass legislation to modernise farming practices, improve access to credit for farmers, and support agricultural research and development,”
Ihonvbere went on to say that the Green Chamber will look at agro-processing prospects to add value to the country’s agricultural produce and create additional employment.
According to him, “In the technology and innovation space, we will foster an environment that encourages start-ups, nurtures innovation hubs, and incentivises research and development.
“Our overall goals are job creation, higher foreign exchange earnings, new skills development, diversification of exports and strengthening and deepening our technological foundations.”
The Nigeria Union of Teachers and the Federal Ministry of Health are two of the stakeholders who contributed to the agenda.
