Billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch announced his engagement to his girlfriend of six months, Ann Lesley Smith, less than a year after his divorce from his fourth wife, Jerry Hall. In an interview with his publication, the New York Post, Murdoch revealed that he proposed to Smith with an Asscher-cut diamond solitaire ring. Despite his nerves, Rupert Murdoch is confident that his marriage to Smith will be his last.
The couple plans to wed in late summer this year after meeting last September at Murdoch’s Moraga vineyard in Bel Air, California. Smith, a former police chaplain and the widow of late country music star Chester Smith, described their relationship as “a gift from God.”
Murdoch, who is worth an estimated $17 billion, has been married four times previously and has six children from those marriages. His first marriage to Patricia Booker produced one child, Prudence MacLeod. His second marriage to Anna Mann produced one daughter, Elisabeth, and two sons, Lachlan and James. Murdoch’s third wife, Wendi Deng, bore him two daughters, Grace and Chloe. His fourth marriage to Jerry Hall did not produce any children.
