Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has publicly welcomed social media activist Very Dark Man (VDM) home after his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A week ago, VDM was arrested by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja, a development confirmed by his lawyer, Denise Adeyanju, on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). On Wednesday, after spending a week in detention, VDM regained his freedom, with former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore confirming the news on his X account.
Taking to Instagram, Sarah Martins expressed her joy at VDM’s release, referring to him as her “sweet husband.” Her playful and affectionate post read:
“Welcome back, my sweet husband. This night don sure for me. Tonight is gonna be a rough night. I love you so much, my baby.”
Sarah’s admiration for VDM is well-documented. On his birthday in April, she referred to him as her baby and wished him endless blessings. In a previous instance, Sarah revealed that her comment on VDM’s social media page earned her a gift of ₦800k from a fan impressed by her smart dressing.
VDM’s arrest stirred an outpouring of support from celebrities:
-
Rita Edochie hailed him as an exceptional figure lending a voice to societal issues.
-
Davido praised VDM’s impactful work and the encouragement from his supporters.
-
Cubana Chief Priest lamented the lack of joy during VDM’s absence and called for his release.
-

Sarah’s declaration of love for VDM sparked criticism on social media, with netizens questioning her motives. In response, Sarah defended her feelings in a heartfelt Instagram post, emphasizing their connection:
“In case you haven’t noticed, I have his last name ‘Martins.’ We are officially married in my heart. If you can’t wish us well, please leave us alone.”
