Saudi Arabia has announced that this year’s Arafah sermon will be broadcast in 37 languages, including Nigerian languages such as Hausa, Yoruba, and Fulani. The sermon is scheduled for June 5, corresponding to 9 Dhul Hijjah 1446 in the Islamic calendar, and will be aired live for a global audience.

The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing effort to promote inclusivity and global engagement during the annual Hajj pilgrimage. By translating the sermon into various languages, the Kingdom seeks to ensure that Muslims around the world can understand and connect with the message being delivered, regardless of their linguistic background.

Languages selected for the broadcast include Arabic, English, French, Urdu, Indonesian, Persian, Chinese, Russian, Bengali, Turkish, Malay, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Filipino, Amharic, Bosnian, Hindi, Dutch, Thai, Malayalam, Swahili, Pashto, Tamil, Azerbaijani, Swedish, Uzbek, Albanian, Somali, Rohingya, and the three Nigerian languages Hausa, Yoruba, and Fulani.

The Day of Arafah is one of the most significant days in the Islamic calendar. It marks the climax of the Hajj pilgrimage when pilgrims gather on the plain of Arafat to offer prayers and seek forgiveness. For Muslims who are not on pilgrimage, the day is observed through fasting, reflection, and supplication.

Through this multilingual broadcast, Saudi Arabia hopes to deepen global understanding of the religious and spiritual significance of Arafah, fostering unity among Muslims worldwide and making religious content more accessible across cultures and communities.
