The Katsina state-owned security organization, Community Watch Corps, seized a vehicle carrying 610 rounds of ammunition in the state’s Batsari Local Government Area.
Dr Nasir Muazu, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Katsina.
Insecurity has plagued Batsari, one of the state’s frontline local government units.
The commissioner said:
“A significant security operation was carried out by our men on Sept. 10, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., in Batsari town.
“Acting on credible intelligence, members of the community watch corps have intercepted a commercial vehicle with registration number BTR 45 XA, carrying 17 passengers — 13 females and four males, including the driver.
“During a routine stop-and-search at a checkpoint, the corps discovered a cache of ammunition hidden under the seat, which was later found to contain 610 rounds of ammunition of both AK-47 and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), and two magazines.”
He stated that the guy, dressed in white voile, acted suspiciously during the voyage.
The commissioner stated that the state administration, led by Gov. Dikko Radda, is dedicated to ensuring peace and security.
Muazu pledged that the government will continue to assist and improve the skills of its security forces in combating all types of criminality in the state.
