Senate on Tuesday has approved the creation of the Federal University of Technology in Ilaro, Ogun State, and the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.
The bills proposing the formation of both institutions passed for a third reading after the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund gave its report on the subject.
Senator Dandutse Mohammed (APC, Katsina South), the committee’s chairman, stated during the presentation of the report that the establishment bill for the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro in Ogun State, is premised on the town’s Federal Polytechnic being upgraded to a Federal University of Technology.
The bill, which was sponsored by Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West), was initially considered in the 9th Senate but did not pass.
The Senate adopted the committee’s proposal to relocate the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kashia, Kaduna State, from Manchok, as previously requested by the bill’s sponsor, Senator Sunday Katung (PDP, Kaduna South) to Kachia.
As a result, after reviewing the reports clause by clause, the Red Chamber approved the two laws for third reading.
