The Senate vetted and confirmed Zaccheus Adedeji as Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service on Tuesday.
President Bola Tinubu nominated Adedeji to lead the revenue organisation in an interim capacity in September after instructing Muhammad Nami to take a three-month pre-retirement vacation.
While addressing the parliamentarians, Adedeji stated that the FIRS, under his supervision, will reconsider the significance of tax exemptions for some companies.
According to him:
“We will re-assess all the waivers and reevaluate their economic importance, whether useful or not. We will review this, with your support.
“Our problem is lack of data. When you ask these people ten times how much tax they should pay, they will give you ten different answers.
“One of the visions I have is to develop the data upon which we will make decisions. It is when we have data that we can plan so that we will not ask them how much they will pay because we have the data
“We will centralise the identification system. The NIN becomes the basic identity that everyone will have; everything will be linked to it.”
