Nollywood actress and filmmaker Shan George has opened up about a past encounter with one of Nigeria’s richest men and how it shaped her journey as a movie producer.
Taking to her Facebook page, Shan revealed that more than a decade ago, when she was still a struggling filmmaker, she met the billionaire by chance. Seizing the moment, she invited him to her movie premiere and boldly asked if he could invest in her next project, which had cost her about ₦6 million to produce. Instead of support, she said he simply smiled, waved her off, and became unreachable despite her repeated attempts.
The actress later came across a report where the same man admitted he never takes “little people” seriously in business. Looking back, Shan said she understood why he dismissed her then, but she added that her honesty might have worked against her.
According to her, telling the truth often sets people back, but she would never join “the lying gang” or fake her success just to get ahead. In a playful message to the billionaire, Shan stated that she now makes films with budgets of $100 million and asked if he would consider investing now—or if she was still “too small.”
Beyond her reflection, Shan has often been outspoken about the realities of the entertainment industry. In 2023, she claimed that some junior colleagues fake their wealth by leasing houses while pretending to be owners. She also called for investigations into luxury fashion brand Ashluxe after a bitter incident at their store left her heartbroken.
