Popular Nigerian musician, Simi, has condemned the reported irregularities that occurred during the recent presidential and national assembly elections in Nigeria. In a tweet she shared, the singer called on all citizens to fight for justice. She also called for a fair election, regardless of political affiliations.
Expressing her disappointment with the “blatant corruption” that marred the elections, Simi urged Nigerians to prioritize justice over party loyalty. She also drew attention to the various incidents of chaos, thuggery, and voter suppression that were reported during the polls.
In her tweet, Simi stated,
How can you even support anything that is this blatantly corrupt? Didn’t you see the chaos yesterday? The thugs? The disenfranchisement? Regardless of who you support, shouldn’t all of us be fighting for justice and a fair election? What is your priority? Can’t you read the room?”
Simi’s comments reflect the concerns of many Nigerians who have criticized the conduct of the elections. As well as those who called for electoral reforms to prevent a recurrence of the irregularities that were reported.
