Veteran Nollywood actress Sola Sobowale has demonstrated her gratitude in a heartwarming gesture toward legendary actor Adebayo Salami.
At the premiere of Her Excellency, a film marking Salami’s 60th anniversary in Nollywood, Sobowale knelt to pay homage to the man she credits for shaping her illustrious career.
Speaking at the event, Sola Sobowale lauded Adebayo Salami for his unwavering support and selflessness. She described him as a man of substance, a giver, and a pillar to many in the industry.
God used him to take me to where I am today,” she said. “You didn’t only touch me but so many others—young, old, male, female. You are a selfless man, a man of action and substance. Thank you. And to Mama Wale, your support made him what he is today. You will enjoy the fruit of your labour.”
Sobowale’s powerful role as Eniola Salami in King of Boys solidified her place as one of Nollywood’s most respected actresses. However, her path to success wasn’t without sacrifices. In an interview, she shared how she left the movie industry at its peak to move to the UK and care for her children. She took on menial jobs, spending hours commuting to make ends meet, yet never gave up on her dreams.
Despite her success, Sobowale has faced criticism and strained relationships within the industry. Actor Lalude recently recounted a painful experience, alleging that Sobowale ignored him at a public event. He recalled being instrumental in her early acting career but expressed disappointment in her actions.
