Media personality and life coach Solomon Buchi is stirring conversation with his recent comments on couples who wear matching outfits.
Speaking on a podcast alongside his wife, Buchi made it clear that he finds the practice off-putting. According to him, couples wearing the exact same clothes look less romantic and more like comic characters.
“It’s cringeworthy, cheesy, and very mischievous,” he said.
“Couples who dress exactly alike look like Aki and Pawpaw or wannabe twins. We look like clowns.”
While he doesn’t mind coordinating colours or wearing complementary styles, Buchi said identical outfits—especially in English wear—cross the line for him.
“You know in Secondary school when two hideous friends try to act like they’re in a sisterhood—always wearing the same thing?” he added.
“Coordinated colours? That’s classy. Wearing the same thing? No, thank you.”
His remarks have drawn mixed reactions online:
-
@justifiednow: “Over sabi wan kill this man.”
-
@onyinyechi6473: “Just do you in your marriage.”
-
@eemila_eem: “He doesn’t like his wife.”
-
@adaikweree: “How come he hasn’t discovered the mischievousness in this hat and eyeglasses? Tueh!”
This isn’t the first time Buchi has aired bold views on marriage and relationships.
Earlier this year, he revealed that a woman once slid into his DMs claiming she’d be available the moment his wife leaves him. In 2023, he stated that marriage is one of the few institutions that humbles people and helps them deal with stubbornness.
Buchi has also urged couples to remain transparent with each other, especially when it comes to phone access. According to him, being open in marriage fosters trust and accountability.
On a broader note, the relationship coach has spoken against victim mentality. He believes constantly playing the victim restricts growth and only attracts pity. In his words, “The day you stop playing victim is the day you start living a fuller life.”
