Sonia Adesuwa Ighalo, the ex-wife of Nigerian footballer Jude Ighalo, has shared a message with married couples in Lagos, urging them to always wear their wedding rings.
Taking to her Instagram story, she emphasized that wedding rings are not just a personal symbol of commitment but also a public statement to others. She advised married people to stop confusing singles and make it easier for others to recognize their relationship status.
Married people in Lagos, please always wear your wedding rings. They are a symbol of commitment to your significant other and a public statement to total strangers. Stop confusing singles out there. At least make e dey easy for us to know how many of us remain,” she wrote.
Sonia’s advice comes amid her ongoing relationship with her ex-husband, Jude Ighalo, whom she married in 2009 and separated from in 2020 after a decade of marriage. Despite their separation, Sonia has publicly praised Jude for his thoughtful gestures, such as when he sent her Kilishi from Abuja after she expressed a craving.
Over the years, their relationship has been the subject of media attention, with Sonia making several public statements about their split, including accusations about infidelity and claims of their reconciliation and eventual breakup. In one notable instance, Sonia revealed that her father had solely funded their traditional marriage, and in September, she sarcastically urged Jude to collect her bride price.
While the two have had their ups and downs, Sonia’s message to married couples in Lagos resonates as a reminder of the importance of commitment and clear communication in relationships.
