PRINCIPAL PIPING CAD DESIGNER
Supervising / Principal Designer on a large project or several smaller projects.

Position Title: Supervising / Principal Piping CAD Designer (Level 4) Customer Sector Group (CSG)/Region: Hydrocarbons / Lagos – Nigeria Reports To (Position Title): Lead Discipline Engineer # Direct Reports: Pricinpal and Senior Designers Name Of Current Incumbent: Peter Etim, Abdul Shaibu, Akintunde Adegbayo, and Oluseun Olashore Date Completed: 20-Jul-22 Why Does This Position Exist? Supervises a group of five or more Designers plus design personnel, usually in one discipline, by directing technical engineering assignments and coordinating project staffing assignments. Education and experience over several years must be sufficient in order for the incumbent to serve as a Supervising / Principal Designer on a large project or several smaller projects.
Responsibilities
- Major Accountabilities Of Position: Priority What – How – Why Responsibility % of total job 1 To ensure Health, Safety and Environment has the highest priority in all activities undertaken by Engineering and Design personnel.
- Directly reponsible for output, may be shared with other Designers, depending on project 5% 2 Assist Lead Engineer in selection of personnel to staff project design team, and allocate work accordingly
- Directly reponsible for output, may be shared with other Designers, depending on project 10% 3 Encourage staff on awareness of Company safety and quality objectives
- Directly reponsible for output, may be shared with other Designers, depending on project 5% 4 Proficiency in 3D software for preparation of 3D Models, auto-generation of MTOs, detection and modification of clashes between piping, equipment and structural members, extraction of 2D drawings from 3D Models and general presentation of projects
- Directly reponsible for output, may be shared with other Designers, depending on project 30% 5 Lead team of designers in Preparation of General Arrangement drawings, Sections, Elevations, and Details of Flow stations, Jackets, Platforms and decks with specific skills in Steel works and Concrete Arrangement, Connections and Details
- Directly reponsible for output, may be shared with other Designers, depending on project 25% 6 Identify and develop in-departmental training exercises for junior designer enrichment
- Directly reponsible for output, may be shared with other Designers, depending on project 10% 7 Provide Lead Engineer with MDR list and CTR and schedule estimates (understanding of scope, identification of deliverables and requisite hours to produce deliverables
- Directly reponsible for output, may be shared with other Designers, depending on project 5% 8 Check drawings produced by juniors

Qualification
- HND/B.sc in a related field with CAD Training experience above 12+ years
- Working knowledge of the latest applicable engineering codes and standards, design practices and design quality standards.
- Study and understand all company procedures – EMS and Engineering procedures
- Know and study client’s specifications and design manuals
- Know basic CAD and discipline standard symbols
- Requires communication skills to be able to successfully work in a team environment and communicate effectively with other disciplines.
- Know and understand basic discipline deliverables on a project
Authority / Freedom To Act / Decision Making (Incl Budgetary Responsibility
- Works under general supervision of Lead Descipline Engineer
- Makes informed decisions when appropriate
- Work requires an understanding of company policies and procedures
- Work follows applicable codes and standards, design practices and design quality standards
- Works to a given schedule
- No budgetary responsibility
