Security operatives have arrested a suspected cult leader, Favour Nosaghare, along with four alleged accomplices at Igbinedion University in Okada, Edo State.

The suspects were detained over their alleged involvement in cult-related activities following a tip-off from the university’s security unit.

According to reports, Nosaghare, who had previously been suspended from the institution over alleged cultism, returned to the campus on July 28 around 3:20 p.m. in the company of other suspected cult members.

Acting on the information provided, security personnel swiftly moved in and apprehended four additional suspects: Emmanuel Omogiyo, Osaigie Gerald, Obiorah Chukwudi, and Esther Chukwuma. All five individuals are students of the university and are believed to be affiliated with the Black Axe confraternity, also known as Aye.

During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered several illicit items, including wraps of Indian hemp, a pack of rolling papers (Rizla), and a metal grinder. These findings further raised suspicions about the group’s activities on campus.

Following their arrest, Nosaghare reportedly admitted to the offence during preliminary interrogation. The case highlights ongoing concerns about cult-related violence and illegal activities within educational institutions in Nigeria. Authorities have intensified efforts to curb such activities, particularly in universities where secret cults have been known to operate.

The arrests serve as a warning to students involved in unlawful organisations, reinforcing the commitment of security agencies and school administrations to maintain order and safety on campuses. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects may face further legal action depending on the outcome. The university has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
