Sources have reported that American singer Taylor Swift and actor Joe Alwyn have ended their six-year relationship. The news was first reported by Page Six, which stated that the split was amicable, with no bad blood between the exes. According to the source, the breakup was not dramatic and their relationship had simply run its course.
Swift, who has been on her blockbuster “Eras Tour” since March 17, was seen performing without Alwyn in the crowds. A friend of the couple had previously said that Alwyn would travel with Swift when he could. The friend further reiterated that they were great together. The couple started dating in 2016 after meeting at the Met Gala, but they did not make their relationship public until 2017.
Swift and Alwyn had been known to keep their relationship private, and engagement rumours had circulated in the past. In her 2020 Netflix documentary “Miss Americana,” Swift was seen wearing what looked like an engagement ring, but the speculation was never confirmed. Swift had mentioned in the documentary that they had decided together to keep their relationship private.
Alwyn had also mentioned in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he would not reveal their relationship status. He maintained this stance even if he did propose.
“I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say,” he said.
The breakup comes as a surprise to fans who had seen the couple together on multiple occasions. This includes the 2021 BRIT Awards, where Swift was presented with the Global Icon award. Alwyn at the time was seen sitting in the audience. Despite the breakup, it appears that Swift and Alwyn will continue to be supportive of each other’s careers.
