The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has issued a strong warning to residents and traders living or operating under high-tension power lines in Kaduna State, urging them to relocate immediately to avoid fatal accidents and protect the national power supply.
The call was made during a high-level awareness forum organised by the TCN in Kaduna, where officials engaged with community members on the dangers of vandalism and illegal construction along transmission corridors.
Engineer Nasir Mansur-Fada, TCN’s General Manager for the Kaduna Region, emphasised the severe risks posed by encroachment on high-voltage power lines. “We are appealing to the public to stay away from these high-voltage lines.
These structures are not just dangerous—they are critical to our nation’s electricity supply,” he stated. He further explained that despite ongoing efforts to expand and upgrade transmission infrastructure, rampant vandalism and unauthorised construction are undermining progress and putting lives at risk.
Technical experts at the forum, including Mr. Simon Innocent, Manager of System Lines, and Mr. Yakubu Abdulrazaq, Assistant Manager of Electrical Operations, detailed the hazards associated with such encroachments. These include obstructing maintenance operations, increasing the risk of electrocution, and potentially causing fires that could disrupt power supply to large areas.
The TCN called for sustained cooperation from local communities and security agencies to safeguard power infrastructure such as power lines. Officials stressed that protecting these facilities is essential to ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply nationwide.
