TEACHING ASSISTANT- Job Description
The Teaching Assistant (TA) position in the SAIL Innovation Lab Data Science for
Society Training Programme is a crucial role that supports the program’s mission to provide comprehensive training in data science and its applications for societal impact. As a TA, you will assist the program instructor and contribute to the overall success of the training program by providing support to the participants, facilitating learning activities, and ensuring a positive and engaging learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist program instructors in preparing and delivering training sessions on various topics related to data science and its applications for societal challenges.
- Collaborate with instructors to develop instructional materials, including presentations exercises, and assignments.
- Guide participants in understanding data science concepts, methodologies, and tools.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group assistance to participants during lab sessions, workshops, and project work.
- Assist in grading assignments, projects, and assessments, providing constructive feedback to participants to enhance their learning experience.
- Help in managing and organizing program resources, including datasets, software tools, and other learning materials.
- Monitor participant progress, identify areas where additional support may be needed, and suggest strategies for improvement.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment by promoting collaboration, respectful communication, and teamwork among participants.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, data science, statistics, or a related discipline.
- Understanding of data science concepts, tools, and techniques.
- Experience in programming languages commonly used in data science, such as Python or R.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with participants and instructors.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Prior experience as a teaching assistant or similar role is desirable but not mandatory.
