Newly released court documents allege that Nima Momeni, the 38-year-old founder of Expand IT, stabbed Cash App founder Bob Lee to death during an argument about Momeni’s sister. It was an argument as to if Lee was doing anything inappropriate with her. According to police, Lee and Momeni had spoken on the phone about Momeni’s sister, Khazar Momeni, who is married to someone else. An unnamed witness told police that Nima had questioned Lee about his sister. He asked if she was “doing drugs or anything inappropriate.” Lee assured Nima that nothing out of bounds had happened.
It is not clear from the documents what kind of relationship Lee had with Khazar. The witness told police it was unclear if Lee and Khazar had an “intimate relationship.”
On the night of the murder, Nima drove Lee to a secluded area in San Francisco. He allegedly stabbed him through the heart with a kitchen knife. Police say that Khazar had brought the knife from her home, indicating that the murder was planned and deliberate.
Moreover, Khazar texted Lee around the time of his murder to check in on him, according to the documents.
Lee was estranged from his wife and living in Florida with his father at the time of his death. Nima was arrested on Thursday, April 13, and is set to be arraigned on April 25. He faces more than 20 years in prison if convicted.
Video footage from Khazar’s apartment shows he and Nima in an elevator together at 2:03 a.m. and getting into the alleged killer’s white BMW. Furthermore, the grainy video also shows the two standing outside of the BMW for about five minutes in a deserted part of the wealthy Rincon Hills neighbourhood.
Additional security cameras appear to show Lee walking away injured. The assailant on the other hand was walking near the area where the murder weapon was discovered. However, the video is not clear enough to show their faces. According to police reports, the white BMW then sped off after this.
