A 25-year-old Texas mother of five, Shamaiya Deyonshana Hall, has been charged with three counts of capital murder. This is after she allegedly stabbed and killed three of her children and injured two others during a surprise Child Protective Services (CPS) home visit in Italy, Texas.
Reports indicate that the children, who were aged six years and under, were in “temporary CPS care“. Officials believe that the Texas mother may have been having unsupervised visits with them, prompting the unannounced visit. CPS had previously given guardianship of the children to another relative.
During the surprise visit, the caseworker contacted 911 at around 4 p.m. after finding the children injured. Police arrived to find three children dead, and two others seriously wounded. A six-year-old boy and five-year-old twins (a boy and a girl) were found dead. On the other hand, a four-year-old boy and a 13-month-old girl were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
The suspect, identified as the children’s mother, was immediately detained and charged. According to Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Cozby, there is no danger to the public at this time.
Butler, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, expressed shock at the tragedy and pledged to work with law enforcement to investigate the incident.
Shamaiya Deyonshana Hall has been charged with three counts of capital murder and is currently being held on $2 million bond on each charge.
